Double Knee 360
Double Knee 360
Description: A 360 spin in double knee, either initiated with the hands or hands free using inertia and hip rotations. This is the first barrier of entry towards more advanced skills and is rarely used in proper competitive applications except for as filler.
How To Perform: While properly positioned in double knee, (chest high and straight, legs fully on the board with only toes off the rear of the board, and knees spread to near the edges of the board) sit back on your heels and put a hand in the wave while rotating your hips towards the side you are wanting to spin to. As you come around lean towards the top of the wave, keeping the hand in the water until you reach a 180, then while leaning forward take out the original hand and continue the spin with the opposite hand using it to guide your lean. Upon finishing your spin use your hand to stop the spin.
Another method is to initiate the spin the same way but instead of keeping your hands in the wave lean when at 90, and 270 degrees and when at 180 pop up slightly to maintain your weight distribution. To halt this spin either sit back hard on your heels or drop in the opposite hand of the direction of your spin (spin to the left you'll use your right and vice versa).
A more difficult version uses no hands at all, go towards the bottom of the wave and initiate a spin by doing a hard rotation of your hips and twisting your upper body in the direction you want to spin, repeating as needed should you lose momentum. Halt the spin by doing a hard dip onto your heels.
